How do I get an import permit for my pet?

Import permits are issued by the destination country’s agricultural or veterinary authority — for example, the Department of Agriculture for Australia, or the relevant ministry for other regulated destinations. Whether Airpets handles the permit for you depends on the service you’ve chosen. Where you’ve asked us to manage it, we’ll usually instruct a local agent on arrival to handle clearance and the import permit application; for Australia (and New Zealand on request) our team applies for the permit directly. Some permits take days, others several weeks, so we factor processing time into your travel timeline.
