Saudi Arabia

King Khalid International (RUH) in Riyadh is the main port of entry for pets travelling to Saudi Arabia. The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture (MEWA) administers import requirements. Saudi Arabia accepts only a small number of dog breeds, so it’s important to confirm eligibility before you book.

Documentation

• ISO 15-digit microchip implanted before rabies vaccination
• Rabies vaccination current at travel (and prior boosters documented)
• Up-to-date annual vaccinations — DHPPL for dogs and RCP for cats
• MEWA import permit issued in advance
• APHA-endorsed health certificate within 7 days of departure
• The importer must be over 21 years old

Breed restrictions

Saudi Arabia generally permits cats freely but restricts dogs more tightly than the UAE. Working breeds (German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois) and small companion breeds are typically accepted; many medium and large breeds are not. Confirm breed acceptability with MEWA before booking travel.

Airlines

Saudia Airlines and British Airways operate direct cargo from London Heathrow to RUH. Turkish Airlines is another carrier we use, routing via Istanbul.
