UAE

The UAE is one of the most popular destinations for UK expats moving with pets. There is no quarantine on arrival for dogs and cats that meet the documentation requirements, and direct cargo flights operate daily from London. Dubai Municipality (Dubai) and ADAFSA (Abu Dhabi) administer separate permit systems for dog imports. Errors at Dubai Cargo Village or Abu Dhabi cargo can result in your pet being held or turned back, so documentation precision matters.

Breed restrictions

The UAE prohibits import of dogs commonly considered dangerous, including American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, Rottweilers, Dobermanns, Mastiffs, Boerboels, Tosa, Fila Brasileiro, and Dogo Argentino. Visually similar mixed breeds may also be refused.

Documentation

• ISO 15-digit microchip implanted before vaccinations
• Rabies vaccination administered after microchipping and at least 21 days before travel
• Core vaccines up to date — DHP plus Leptospirosis (Lepto) for dogs; FVRCP for cats
• Internal and external parasite treatment within 14 days of travel
• APHA-endorsed Animal Health Certificate within 10 days of departure
• Dubai Municipality or ADAFSA dog import permit (separate systems per emirate)

Airlines and arrival

Emirates (into DXB) and Etihad (into AUH) operate direct cargo routes from London. Both accept snub-nosed (brachycephalic) breeds, subject to seasonal temperature restrictions. British Airways does not currently accept pets in the hold on UAE routes. Allow 3–5 hours from landing for customs clearance.
