What can I do for an anxious or nervous pet?

For most anxious pets, the best preparation is gradual crate familiarisation in the weeks before travel and including a scented blanket or piece of your clothing in the crate. For pets with more severe anxiety, a vet can prescribe a non-sedative anxiolytic such as Gabapentin, which calms without affecting breathing or temperature regulation. Any medication must be trialled at home before travel day to make sure your pet doesn’t have an adverse reaction.
