Case Studies

This is the story to date of a family’s precious pet that has be reunited with his long, but now no longer lost adoring family.  It will be a story that will be told for years.  It is like it came from a Disney movie from Hollywood.
This is a story which started in Ireland about two beautiful dogs, They were pets that meant a great deal to their family as they were each gentle and loving souls, an Afghan hound and a Golden Retriever.  Harry, the Golden Retriever, was brought home as a 3 month old puppy in mid 2000 by the family and could be held in one hand.  But Harry grew into a magnificent, humour filled dog that was always smiling and conveying love.

To set the scene of their adoring lives; Harry and Jackpot, the Afghan hound, came to be great friends and Jackpot use to sleep on top of Harry!  They played together constantly.  For fun, Harry use to bend low, and put his neck and shoulders underneath Jackpot’s chest and stomach while Jackpot, who is very tall, was standing up. Harry would then gleefully flip Jackpot up in the air, making Jackpot tumble all over the place! Harry would also like to take Jackpot out for walks, holding Jackpot’s leash in his mouth - all the while trotting side by side one another with tails wagging.  Harry and Jackpot shared the same dinner bowl for their food. Jackpot would always get to eat first.  Harry would lie on the floor, watching Jackpot eat - inches away - with hungry but patient golden retriever eyes fixated on Jackpot’s every move, and with a big golden tail wagging. Jackpot would never take more than half the food in the bowl - so his pal could eat too.

Back in the summer of 2005 the family, pets and all were getting ready to move from Ireland to the British Virgin Islands in the Caribbean (BVI).  They took Harry and Jackpot to the local veterinary surgeon in Ireland to get all necessary import requirements for entry into the BVI.  This included both Harry and Jackpot having microchips implanted under their skin.  The microchips each had a unique number whitch could then be matched with their owners contact details, held on a database.

Then one night, about a one week later, 11:00pm on 25th July, 2005, they let them both out before the family went to bed.  Harry, who loved to run and run and run, tragically did not return this time, he never came home! The family looked everywhere for their Harry, put up posters on walls and street lights for him.  They took out advertisements in local newspapers, a radio station and drove around endlessly looking for him. They suspected that he may have been stolen. All their efforts were to no avail.  They had lost their Harry, the whole family was distraught and saddened by this.
One month later they had to move from Ireland to the British Virgin Islands.  Jackpot travelled without Harry.  But the family always believed that Harry was OK and happy somewhere

About a month ago, Late January 2009, and most unexpectedly, the family received an e-mail from a veterinary nurse in Milton Keynes. She asked in the e-mail if the family were owners of “Harry the Dog!” He had been moved to the UK (what he had done with the last four years who will know) and placed in a dog shelter in England! Harry had been re-homed with an older couple who wanted a Golden Retriever as a pet.  The couple asked their local animal hospital to check Harry’s health. He was found to be fit as a fiddle, full of fun!  No one was able to beat the Harry out of Harry!  They also discovered the microchip that the family had implanted for his move to the BVI, these details were able to lead Harry back to his family.
The family were over joyed with the discovery and rescue of their HARRY!!

Airpets got a phone call from the family, a very excited family, to help them make all the arrangements to bring Harry to the BVI to be re-united with Jackpot and the rest of his loving family.

And that is the amazing story of Harry the great Golden Retriever.
On the 9th March 2009, Harry and Jackpot and his loving family were re-united.  The family has said ‘Harry recognized us all immediately.  He knows our voice and all our voice commands completely too.  He follows us around everywhere we go.  It’s great to have him home again.  We have double the fun and love in our home since his arrival!’.
